A safety management system is a systematic approach to recognising risks and implementing control measures.

Risk assessments

We conduct thorough risk assessments, not only for our activities but also for every aspect of the centre.  These are reviewed on an annual basis, both internally and by external inspectors.  Copies of these are sent to each customer with all confirmed bookings.  Dynamic risk assessments are carried out to ensure that the ongoing safety of both the visitors and staff are continually met.  Other useful documentation can be downloaded from the Bookings tab.

External technical inspections

In addition to inspection visits from Adventuremark, Learning Outside the Classroom, British Canoeing and other professional accreditors, we also employ an external Technical Advisor.  Our Technical Advisor, Joby Maw Davies reviews the training of our instructors and carries out an independent assessment of their hard and soft skills on an annual basis.  Joby also reviews our risk assessments and operating procedures to ensure they meet national standards.

Safety checks

We carry out our own safety audits and inspections, conducting routine safety checks on all equipment, either weekly or monthly, depending on the equipment being reviewed.  All checks are carried out by a competent person and recorded in accordance with manufacturers and industry standards.

Residential stays

For the duration of your visit, a member of the team will be on site to assist you with any problems that may occur no matter what time, day or night.  Our residential buildings are linked to a red care fire system which is monitored 24 hours a day by an independent monitoring station.  We also have a CCTV system which monitors the entrance and top car parks.  On arrival, you will be met by a member of our team who will give you a welcome and safety talk which will include our fire evacuation procedure.
